"We've done very well keeping up with updates at our existing facility," says W. Mackey Watkins, M.D., President and CEO of TMC. "We're making an investment for and in the community by building a new facility designed to meet the needs of our area -- not just for the next few years, but for the next half century. We'll be able to easily expand the new facility to keep pace with growth in our region, which is expected to double in population by 2030." "Both hospital staff and the community are very excited about the new medical center," says Randy Truxal, Vice President of Support Services. "It will be the new gateway into Denison and centrally located for Grayson County residents. Patients will find the new facility easier to access and more customer-friendly. Parking also will be more convenient." Unparalleled comfort and care A medical building for physician offices and related services will be next to the new medical center -- and TMC has already begun recruiting more physicians to the area.
"One of the most exciting aspects of the new medical center is that patient rooms will be private," says Hattie Powell, the hospital's Compliance and Privacy Officer, who has worked at TMC for 18 years. "We'll be able to give patients the same high-quality care in a more attractive, more soothing setting." Hospital staff worked with some of the top companies in the country to create a facility that will be easy for patients and visitors to navigate. The interior will feature a hotel-like atmosphere and natural materials to help foster a sense of relaxation, rejuvenation and spiritual wellness. "The new medical center is part of our continual growth to meet the healthcare needs of the community," says 14-year employee Henry Allison, R.N., Director of Nursing Resources. "It will allow us to provide local families with the best care possible for decades to come." Committed to the community "This is the largest investment in
the history of our community from a
private corporation, and it will have
a major impact on the growth of our
area," says Tony Kaai, President of the
Denison Development Alliance, an
organization responsible for creating
and implementing a comprehensive
economic plan for the city.
"It will be the hub for the growth of
Denison and its retail and service sector
and will spur development in the southern
part of town," he adds. "It will help improve
our economy, raise property values,
contribute to our tax base -- which helps
support our roads, schools, fire and police
departments and more -- and create
additional jobs." The facility is scheduled to open in spring 2010. For updates on the progress of the new Texoma Medical Center, please visit www.texomamedicalcenter.net.
